Respiratory Problems

Respiratory problems like Asthma, Bronchitis and Pneumonia can be serious medical conditions that require professional care. QuestCare Urgent Care can diagnosis and treat many common respiratory problems at our facility in Highland Park.

Asthma is a lung disease that causes obstruction of the airways. During an asthma attack, muscles constrict around the airways disrupting the breathing process. Typical symptoms of an asthma attack are coughing, wheezing, tightness in the chest and difficulty breathing. An attack can last a few minutes or several hours.

There are two basic types of medications used to treat asthma: steroids and anti-inflammatories. They administer in several ways; inhaler, nebulizer or orally.  Our physician can determine which benefit you most. We’ll get you feeling better and breathing right.

The air we breathe enters our bodies through the trachea (windpipe), which connects with the bronchial tubes, which connects to the air sacs in the lungs.  Bronchitis is an irritation or blockage in the bronchial tubes. This results in a buildup of mucus and can cause coughing, fever, pain in the chest and/or back, sore throat and difficulty breathing.

Bronchitis can be either acute or chronic. Acute bronchitis is usually brought on by an infection. I can follow an upper respiratory infection, such as a cold or flu.  Most cases of acute bronchitis run its course without treatment. If our physician thinks it is associated with a bacterial infection, he/she may prescribe an antibiotic.

Chronic bronchitis is a form of COPD, caused by constant exposure to harmful air, such as cigarette smoke or air pollution. Typical symptoms include coughing, mucus production, shortness of breath and wheezing. It could last longer than three months. Treatment may include inhalers or anti-inflammatories.

Pneumonia is a serious infection of the lungs. The infection causes the tiny air sacs in the lung to become inflamed. Symptoms are variable depending on the severity. They can include fever, chills, cough, muscle aches, sore throat, chest pain, and difficulty breathing.

Our physicians may order lab tests and/or X-rays to determine the location and the type of germ that is causing the problem. Our in-house lab and X-ray technicians quickly give results to the doctor so a treatment plan can get underway fast.
