How accurate are blood test?
One of the biggest benefits of a blood pregnancy test is the accuracy. Blood pregnancy test are much more accurate that at home urine pregnancy test. These tests are more accurate because are more sensitive to lower level of hCG in the body than can be detected in urine test.
There are two types of blood pregnancy testing, qualitative testing which provides a ‘yes’ ‘no’ answer and quantitative testing which is more accurate and measures the level of hCG in the bloodstream.
What is hCG
hCG, or Human Chorionic Gonadotropin is the pregnancy hormone. It is produced by the embryo and is commonly used to determine fertility.
When can a blood test be performed?
Blood pregnancy testing can be performed by the team at Questcare Urgent Care as soon as seven days after conception. Our blood test can detect hCG levels as low as five parts per millions while over the counter urine test can only detect levels at 50 parts per million.
Keep in mind that hCG level rise during pregnancy so premature testing may not detect high enough levels to trigger a positive result.
