Sore Throat

Are you suffering from a sore throat and need to see a physician in Highland Park right away? Visit QuestCare Urgent Care clinic for immediate access to help.

Dry throat, pain, burning, swollen tonsils, and/or scratchiness in the back of your throat or mouth, are all indications that you have a sore throat. Pain will often intensify when you swallow. This is one of the most common health complaints.

Most sore throats are caused by viral infections such as the common cold. Also, a sore throat can be caused by anything that irritates the delicate mucous membranes at the back of the throat and mouth. Some irritants may include dust, smoke, fumes, extremely hot foods or drinks, tooth or gum infections, medications, surgery, and abrasions. Continual coughing and excessive shouting or screaming can also aggravate your throat.

Strep Throat

Bacterial infection can also be the case. If left untreated it can lead to a more serious problem. A simple throat swab can be taken right here in our clinic.  We’ll quickly know if strep throat is the culprit. If necessary, injections or IV treatments can be administered at the clinic. We’ll get you started on the right antibiotic and get you feeling better in no time. Other forms of treatment may be considered depending on your diagnosis.

If your child has a sore throat, bring him/her to our clinic. We are available when you are unable to get an appointment with your family physician, or it is after hours. You can help us by noting what his/her symptoms are, how long they have been occurring, and possible sources of infection.

Strep throat is a serious bacterial throat infection that can make your throat feel sore. However, only a small portion of sore throats are caused by strep throat.

Strep Throat Treatment

It is important to identify strep throat for many reasons. If untreated, strep throat can cause complications such as kidney inflammation and rheumatic fever. Rheumatic fever can lead to inflamed joints, a rash and even damage to heart valves.

Strep throat is very common between the ages of 5 and 15. However, it affects people of all ages.
